One Key to a Successful Workout Regime

I am someone who has always been interested in going to the gym to workout. Building muscle is what I have been doing since way back in high school when I was a teenager.

As I was growing up, the fact that I was so skinny and had a frail appearance really got to me. That's when I figured out that what I needed to do was to start going to the gym regularly.

I have spent a lot of years at the gym, and I can tell you that there are two fundamentally obvious things that can be done to help you achieve the best results possible.

Are you prepared to learn what they are? They do not have anything to do with any secret routines that you might have come across in your reading. Your diet, any supplements and miracle pills are all definitely not associated with them.

While it's true that those things definitely matter and can have a positive impact, achieving success at the gym is a lot simpler than that. You will not have to fork over any money, just be seriously disciplined.

Being consistent and putting in a ton of effort are the keys to achieving success with muscle building. These are such simple words; whether you can follow through with them might be a whole other story though.

Here's what you need to do. Consistently do the same workout over and over and that is how you will get positive results every time.

A lot of folks are not consistent when they are working out or doing something and that is why they falter and quit. Stay focused on lifting weights 4 to 5 days each and every week and it's a guarantee that you are going to get results.

One further note, it is crucial that you put forth a lot of effort, unlike some people I have seen who just workout casually with no major exertion. That extra effort that you give every time you workout is going to help you get the best results you can with your muscle building.

P90X is For Women

I don't want to have large muscles like a man. P90X is too tough for me. I can't do all those pull ups and push ups. These are the thoughts women have when seeing P90X. Well, I'm here to squash those thoughts, so that you can get on the path to the look you want.

I was no fitness guru before I started this program. In fact, I hated to exercise. I was always trying to lose weight without exercising or by doing just enough to meet the 30 minute requirement. I had the same fears as most women when I saw the P90X program, but something, I guess frustration with failure, pushed me to move forward.

I had the same concern about the large, burly look. However, my husband helped me to understand that this concern was silly. Think about it, do you really think that you can go from 30 pounds overweight to a body builder in 90 days? People take years to build that type of muscle and a woman's body is not designed to gain muscle in that way as easily. I have done P90X for 8 months now and while I have muscles and a toned look, it is nowhere near the look of a man or a body builder.

P90X has two programs, classic and lean. I have chosen to do the classic version and that is what I recommend you start with. However, if you are still concerned about the look you will get, the lean version may be for you. That version is more cardio oriented with a smaller amount of resistance training. However, if you do choose to go with the classic version, Tony Horton recommends that you decrease the weight and increase the number of reps you do of each move. This will give you a leaner, more toned look. Each resistance training video features a woman doing the increased reps, so you will have someone to identify with.

Don't feel intimidated by the entire fitness routine. Tony Horton's phrase throughout the videos is "Do your best and forget the rest." Hold true to this and do what you can. Do push ups on your knees and only do as many as you can. Replace pull ups with the resistance bands. Only do as much of the video as you feel comfortable with. If you do 15 minutes of the video the first week, push to 20 minutes the second week. Keep this up until you are completing the entire series. When I started, I could only do about 20 minutes of each video. I am now doing the entire strength training video and the Ab Ripper X video in one sitting.

Is P90X for women? Yes. It is absolutely for women. Resistance training combined with cardio burns more fat and helps to increase your metabolism. Resistance training can give a firm, toned look and you can take it one step at a time. Many women, from all areas of life, have found success with the P90X program and so will you!

Successful Weight Loss - Working Out is Only Half the Equation

Does the P90X home workout system work? In short, the answer to that question is yes the P90X does work and can seriously transform your body in 90 days. Accomplishing this in 90 days is not an easy task. Over the course of 90 days I followed the advice below and experienced great results in doing so. I lost 25 pounds and 4 inches off of my waist line!

You will experience a degree of success with any workout regimen if you are dedicated to it. People that work out and don't get the results that they want are usually missing any of the three following items:1) Proper workout structure 2) Workout dedication 3) Diet

Workout Structure:

Most people do not know how to workout. People that purchase a gym membership usually use the elliptical machine and possibly push a few weights a few days a week. They will see only minimal results, if any from this approach. If you have a gym membership and do not know how to work out, I suggest you purchase sessions with a personal trainer. Personal trainers are available at most gyms and will design a specific plan for you that will maximize your results. There is one huge barrier that comes with this solution: COST.

Using the Gold's Gym in my area as a reference, they charge $59.99 a month for a general membership. This entitles you to all the cardio and weight equipment. Purchasing a personal trainer will cost an additional $30.00 a session. Each session is usually around an hour in length. So right there with purchasing a gym membership and one training session your monthly workout expenses have already cost you nearly $90.00. If you purchase one training session a week your cost has not jumped to $180.00. OUCH!!! If you are a business person you are probably factoring in time too. How much time is spent packing your bag each morning and night to get ready for the gym? How much time is spent traveling to and from the gym? Time is money and wasted time is wasted money. If you're anything like me you do not have time in your life to waste.

Workout Dedication:

Perhaps it is our culture or maybe our generation. But despite which one it may be, people expect results immediately from whatever they are doing or become uninterested and lose their motivation to press on and finish what they started.

Before you begin your workout you need to have a clear attainable goal(s) in mind and you need to be %100 committed to achieving your goal(s). You must let nothing come between you and your goal. If you do let something come between you and your goal, excuses will take over and that will be the end. You will have to change around your lifestyle to meet your goals. If your present lifestyle has allowed you to become out-of-shape and unhappy with yourself you will have to change it to reach your goal. I read somewhere that "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result each time you do it."

Being %100 dedicated is not an easy road and there are plenty of speed bumps along the way. Some of these speed bumps allow us to become distracted and lose sight of our goal.

Diet: (Workouts+Diet = Results)

I am going to start this section off with a story and I would appreciate any feedback on it, good or bad. My wife works with a "bigger" woman who was unhappy with her weight and wanted to lose a lot of it. She went ahead a purchased a gym membership... and began "working out". Her workouts consisted of using a cardio machine for 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. So when my wife was telling me this I was doing the math in my head "30 minutes of cardio a day, that's about 350 calories, five days a week. She must be losing around 1600 calories a week which will be about 1 pound every two weeks.". When discussing possible workouts for losing a lot of weight, this isn't the best one but it beats what she was doing before hand which was nothing.

Anyways, so a few weeks go by and I ask my wife how her friend's weight loss is going and she responds with immediate laughter. After regaining her breath she goes on to say that her friend is still working out each day but is expressing some dissatisfaction with her results. Apparently she had not lost any weight. Well if she hasn't missed a workout in a month and hasn't lost an ounce, there can be only one explanation; DIET. I asked my wife about her diet and then she began to laugh again. This friend of hers was eating McDonald's for breakfast each morning. After hearing this my jaw hit the floor and I began laughing too.

Could someone be that ignorant/uneducated about losing weight? My wife went onto explain that she had brought up the McDonald's concern with her friend only to have her concerns brushed off with this rationale; "I have always ate McDonald's for breakfast, even before I started working out. If I keep eating the same but work out, I should lose weight, right???" Theoretically her friend is correct but this applies to the "average diet" which does not include McDonalds. McDonald's does not offer too much food that is healthy. They do offer some healthy food, but not a lot of it. After the movie "Super Size" me, McDonald's released a statement saying that "...most of their food should not be eaten more than once a week".

It has taken me some time to understand this, but working out is only half of the equation. The other half is dieting. If you do not adhere to a diet while you are working out you are limiting your results. Now when most people hear the word diet they get all freaked out and begin thinking of eating vegetables and tofu. Get that idea out of your head and replace it with eating healthy. Think about eating more fruits and vegetables and lean meat and taking out the "sweets". Dieting is an important piece of the puzzle and is only as hard as you make it. By not dieting you are limiting your results and pushing your goal farther and farther away. I hope my wife's friend begins to understand this, but the smart money is on McDonald's.

Team Beachbody is a relatively new company that creates and distributes fully supported home workout programs. By fully supported I mean that the workouts also come with a detailed diet plan that tells you exactly what to eat for each meal. It factors in weight, age, gender, and activity level. There are also support opportunities and Beachbody.com This site works like Facebook. It allows you to network with other people and share workout problems/solutions with them. This past summer I used and completed the P90X workout system. As you can see, I lost a fair amount of weight and toned up too. If you are looking to only lose weight and would like to focus on your cardiovascular health I would recommend Beacbody's Insanity program. These workouts are 40 minutes in length and push you to the brink of exhaustion. With each workout I lose around 700-800 calories.

If you are looking to change your lifestyle and have a clear attainable goal than I recommend purchasing a Beachbody workout product. When compared to a gym it will save you a lot of money. These home workout systems come fully supported with a diet and pier support opportunities. DECIDE, COMMIT, AND SUCCEED!

How to Get Rid of Bat Wings

Bat wings is a term that refers to the flabby area in the back of the arms that tends to hang down. It commonly occurs as a result of being overweight. The back of the arms can be tightened up with weight loss and muscle toning exercises. One way to reduce the bat wing effect is to lower your overall body fat percentage. The primary way to do this is by changing your diet.

Your diet doesn't have to be overly complicated. The easiest way to eat is to keep things simple. Cut back on eating processed food. If you can do this at least 80% of the time, you should notice significant progress in your weight loss. Most food that comes in packages like boxes, cans, jars, and most of all comes from a drive-through window should be avoided. Think fresh food that comes in its most natural state.

Once you have your diet cleaned up, you can begin the fat burning process with the right exercises. You want to become a fat-burning machine. You can do this effectively by performing back-to-back exercises with little rest in between. Perform the exercises in sets and rest 1 to 2 minutes in between rounds. This form of exercising is called interval training or circuit training. It burns fat much more effectively than regular study state cardio. Best of all, the workouts are typically shorter than most workouts.

Next you want to do specific exercises that will strengthen the muscles in your arms, particularly your triceps. I have found three specific tricep exercises that work well. They include chair dips, close grip push-ups, and dumbbell tricep extensions. Work your triceps at least a few times a week consistently and you will begin to notice the back of your arms getting some definition.

Since I've been working out to reduce arm flab, working my triceps has become one of my favorite body parts to work out. I am on a nutrition and fitness program that has made it easy for me to eat well and exercise regularly.

How Rhabdo Ruined My Race - What Every Marathoner Should Know About Rhabdomyolysis

I was in the best shape of my life . . . and I almost died.

It didn't matter that I had been an athlete my entire life, or ran an average of 3-5 times per week for the 20 years before the day I raced my third NYC Marathon.

Nobody ever told me about the risk of rhabdomyolysis, and if you're a runner, chances are you have never heard of it either.  Rhabdomyolysis, or rhabdo for short, is a condition that occurs when skeletal muscle breaks down and the muscle fiber contents travel through the bloodstream to the kidneys.  However, instead of these contents being filtered, they block the structures of the kidneys and shut them down.

Exertional rhabdomyolysis is well documented, and classic cases have been diagnosed in marathoners and military personnel that have gone through basic training and other rigorous conditioning programs.  Rhabdo doesn't discriminate either.  It can strike those that are well conditioned in addition to those that are not.

If it happens to you, there is a chance you will be misdiagnosed as having a stomach virus.  I can say this because it happened to me.  I lived for 10 days without any kidney function.  I had acute renal failure.  The mortality rate at the creatinine level I had upon entering the hospital is only 50%.  I am lucky to have survived.  It was extremely fortunate that my kidneys responded to treatment and I didn't require dialysis.

I am not aware of any major marathon race organizer that educates its participants about rhabdo.  Now it's my job to educate runners about this potentially fatal disorder that could strike without warning at any time.  If you plan on running a marathon, or are simply planning some long training runs, I encourage you to read my blog.

Is The Beachbody Coach Business Opportunity Worth It?

The Beachbody Coach Business Opportunity

The mega successful Beachbody company, makers of P90X, Turbo Jam, Hip Hop Abs, Brazil Butt Lift and others has taken a very unique approach to their marketing strategies. In addition to having the #1 infomercial on TV in the US (P90X) they've opted not to market their products with the traditional retail approach. Instead the company offers a business opportunity for individuals to become a "coach" which in a multi-level-marketing business might usually be referred to a an Independent Business Owner (IBO) or an Independent Representative. These are all just different titles to describe the same thing - an individual who operates in a peer to peer (P2P) network of others who work together to promote either products or the business opportunity or both. A representative can then earn commissions from his or her downline.

What makes this company so unique is that they don't rely solely on any one marketing method, and as mentioned above they've refused to market their products and services through major retailers such as Walmart, Target and others. By using infomercials nationwide and allowing coaches to take full advantage of these efforts the company has managed to create a powerful presence in the in-home exercise market. The company projects continued growth as new representatives join the organization. The nationwide coach network is able to market their exercise programs, weight loss supplements and fitness equipment directly to the public.

What exactly does this mean for those who are considering becoming a Beachbody Coach? It means that unlike other MLM opportunities your efforts are supported by infomercials that just about everyone who owns a TV has seen. P90X and all of the other fitness programs are highly rated and supported by thousands of success stories from customers and coaches who have truly developed their beach body. This means that as a business owner (coach) you can avoid what is normally the most difficult part of marketing - educating people about your product line. The hard part is already done for you thanks to Beachbody's massive marketing budget and the most powerful marketing tool on the planet - word of mouth. New coaches are not required to be fitness or nutrition experts.

There is no limit to the potential income with this opportunity. Every coach receives two professional websites which are easily customized with no web design skills required in addition to full access to a back-office website which is where they can run watch training videos, reports, track sales, monitor the sales of their team and download training and marketing materials. Coaches also receive a 25% discount on products offered at the online store. Inventory, order fulfillment and tracking are all handled at a corporate level. There is a fee of $39.95 to enroll which is very low compared to many MLM businesses, none of which provide national infomercials and other advertising which is exclusive to this opportunity. The Beachbody Coach business could be a perfect fit for anyone who is interested in working from their home with unlimited income potential while helping others become more physically and financially fit.

My Review - Turbo Fire Vs Insanity

I get this question a lot. What is the difference between Insanity and Turbo fire. Insanity came out about July of 2009 and Turbo fire arrived on the scene June 2010. I have done Insanity and it is a very serious and intense program that really will push you to your limits to get you to ultimate condition. Shaun T is the trainer and does an awesome job with motivating and pushing you beyond your thresholds, But Insanity isn't for beginners at all. If you haven't worked out in years or never worked out, Insanity may not be for you. Many people see all the cardio work in Insanity and want to get it to lose weight. That's fine. The thing is Insanity is filled with very insane workouts and moves that will be very difficult for those who don't work out daily or regularly. Also if someone were to take the Insanity challenge and they were a beginner, they would have to go at their own pace because Insanity doesn't have a modifier or someone showing you how to do the moves with less impact or intensity. Insanity is also a 63 day (or about 9weeks) program based on the principles of Max Interval Training( doing exercises and drills for longer periods and having minimal rest periods) and gives you calorie burning well after you are done with the workouts. They weren't kidding when they said you will be pushed to your extremes! I completed Insanity( right after my 2 rounds of P90x 1 Lean and 1 classic Version). I felt after P90x I could take on the world and Insanity had come out during the last week of my 2nd round.

As for Turbo Fire, also Chalenen Johnson has done a fabulous job with the moves and choreography and music in Turbo Fire. You have the option of making Turbo Fire a 90 day( or 12 week) program or a 140 day( or 20 week program based on the package you purchase called advanced Classes). Also Chalene has added a Hybrid schedule with Chalean Extreme. Turbo Fire uses the principle of HIIT for their workouts. HIIT is High Intensity Interval Training which also allows you too burn calories way after your workout is over. Chalene calls it the after burn effect. To describe this well and clear...your metabolism will be raised for longer periods in turn burn more calories! Same thing occurs in Insanity. Ok here is a huge difference between Insanity and Turbo Fire...During your HIIT drills in Turbo Fire you will hear a siren the siren signals when the HIIT Drill begins. The HIIT drills last from 30 seconds-60 depending on the workout. After the HIIT drill you get the equal amount of rest time for each HIIT drill. So if you have a 30 second HIIT drill, you will get a 30 second recovery duration. In Insanity you might have a 4 minute drill and you might get a 45 second break if you are lucky. Back to the music in Turbo Fire I noticed that all the moves go with all the music in the workouts. To describe it better...you normally have to continue to look at the TV when you have to transition from move to move, not with Turbo fire! Once you have memorized the moves the music changes from move to move so you don't have to look at the TV! I think this is awesome. Plus the music used in Turbo Fire is amazing. You really don't think you are working out because the music is motivating you constantly! So is Chalene! The music in Insanity is hardcore just get it done no time for games in. Just get it done back round music. Some of the music tracks in Insanity are cool but they aren't congruent to the moves. Chalene Johnson used a great amount of time and music that will keep you jumping and kicking and really sweating. Also in Insanity you have higher reps in the moves which gives you a easier time transitioning from move to move during Shaun T's drills. In Turbo Fire HIIT drills..let's use a 60 second HIIT Drill, you might do 7 different moves within the HIIT drill about 3 times. Now that is tough trust me! Take in mind like I said the music helps you know when to switch to the next move.

I can honestly say Turbo Fire is fun and challenging at the same time. Turbo fire and Insanity are 2 Challenging workouts. Also beginners can do Turbo Fire because there is a modifier for each move! Also there is a Prep Schedule in the Turbo Fire guide in case you feel you aren't ready for the Turbo Fire Challenge. Also both Trainers, Shaun T an Chalene Johnson are awesome Trainers and motivators. They have their own styles and personalities. Always pick the workout that is best for you and your current physical condition. I had a great time doing Insanity and I am having a great time with Turbo fire.

Both in home fitness programs are for men and woman. Both will get you into better condition than when you started. Also remember it is good to mix things up in your fitness lifestyle so you stay motivated. Both are set to 6 days of working out weekly. Both programs have a nutrition and program guide to help you along the way to the new you. Both programs require minimal equipment. In Turbo fire you will use a resistance band and a lower body band( lower body band is included in base package). Insanity uses just your body weight. Both have Deluxe or extended packages with tougher workouts. Insanity has 3 additional workouts in the deluxe and Turbo Fire has 5 additional works in the deluxe. Both suggest you use the results and recovery formula from P90x for better results and recovery. Both require that you bring your game face when it is time to workout! Both require you to be and stay hydrated for better health. Both can be done in the privacy of your home if you don't like going to the gym. Or both can be used to in your normal routine at the gym to spice up your current fitness routine. Both will allow you to lose weight and get into great shape if you follow their nutrition guides or a healthy clean diet.

It all boils down to which is right for you my friends! Have a great time on your fitness journey! We only get one life so let's be happy and healthy. Continue to push play everyday.

Need a Home Workout Routine Powerful Enough For Professional Athletes? - Try P90X

Often termed as being one of the most "glamorous" and powerful home-workout routines of the present times, the P90X is also one of the most followed these days. There are more than 2 million people who are following the P90X for getting a ripped body. There have been a lot of success stories with the P90X over a short span of just four years. One of the major reasons behind the growing popularity of the P90X has been the way various products, equipments and supplemental diet plans have emerged alongside the original system. There have been many expert dieticians and nutritionists who have helped in making the P90X a better program that it was during its inception phase. It is the fact that there are so many helper equipments to make the actual P90X workout routines more doable, makes it an indispensable workout routine for many people.

Regular improvement over the original plan, addition of more and more products and constant marketing have made the P90X a popular system, as we know it today. We would be looking at some such products and supplements in greater depth in subsequent lines, just to give you an idea of how these supplements and equipments help you achieve the desired results in a more comfortable and fast way.

The P90X recovery shakes are probably the most desired supplemental products and are also one of the best selling P90X exercise adjuncts available in the market today. The main reason why such shakes/drinks are so popular with P90X followers is that it is designed to give your body a kick of energy, without injecting those harmful and unwanted calories. These drinks have been developed in various flavors and formats, and you would need to do some research before you narrow down on the drink of your choice. Recovery shakes can also be a good gifting item for those who are already into a full throttle P90X workout program. Antioxidants contained in such drinks help you strengthen your muscles and renew your body cells. These shakes are designed in such a way that they can enhance your body's ability to recover from the strenuous workout routine and recover almost 100% of the calories that you might have lost during a day's workout, without actually taking in those calories all over again. The drinks also make you feel stuffed, and therefore, greatly eliminate the need of taking food. These drinks are high in proteins and vitamins, two of the most important food items for building muscles and improving metabolism. These recovery drinks also contain small quantities of carbohydrates, which are very essential for gaining energy.

Some high-end recovery drinks are designed in such a way that they actually boost your workout levels and help you in achieving more with every single day. Such drinks might be more expensive, and might contain some chemical supplements. Be sure to consult a dietician before going in for such drinks. I personally rely more on those recovery drinks that contain natural food items and are nutritious too. Ensure that you have checked out the levels of carbs and calories in these drinks. Some of the high-end energy drinks might contain up to 1000 calories, and you don't want to be consuming such a drink if you sole aim of getting into a P90X routine is that of losing weight.

What Exercises Are Safe After Gastric Bypass Surgery?

Exercise is critical after your gastric bypass surgery. The surgery in itself will not allow you to lose all your weight and attain your weight loss goals. Before you start any exercise routine after bariatric surgery, you must consult your Physician. Each case is different, and your Physician will be able to assess your condition and advise you on whether you are ready to start an exercise routine. Please read further, we will be covering the types of exercise that will help you reach your weight loss goals.

Each person is unique, and needs a plan that is individualize for you. Most often times, Physicians will recommend that you develop and start your exercise routine before your bypass surgery then resume after your surgery.

If you start in small increments leading up to your surgery you will notice your flexibility improves as well as your balance. You will want to make sure these are in supervision by your doctor. They will be able to assess along the way if you are exercising at the appropriate levels.

To get started, you will need to start walking. Walking is one the best ways you can start and build up to a more active workout routine. Start with short walks several times per day, then build up gradual to longer distances. You will want to keep a diary if possible, and possibly purchase a pedometer to track your progress. Let your body tell you when you are getting a good workout. The other benefit of walking is that you will start toning your muscles. This will help reduce injury later as the intensity increases.

Six weeks after surgery, you should now be ready to start increasing your exercise routine. Again, check with your Physician first after your gastric bypass surgery. You will want to continue walking, but add other exercises to your routine. At first, you won't want to lift more than about 10 pounds, but should build up by doing strength training exercises.

If you are not familiar with basic strength training exercises, you will want to take the following into consideration:

· Start with 5-15 minutes of cardio exercise before you start strength training.

· Choose 1-2 exercises for each muscle groups. These include chest, back, shoulders, biceps, triceps, legs, and Abs. Look online for actual demonstrations of exercises for you.

· You will want to start with 1-2 sets of 6-15 repetitions for each set. Make sure you are keeping a diary as you build up.

· You will want to use enough weight where you feel some resistance, but don't overdo it at first. You will need to build up.

· Every week, start adding weight and repetitions as you feel your strength increasing.

In combination with exercise, don't forget about your diet. The combination of a healthy diet and exercise are your keys to success. Don't lose ground, stay away from foods that are high in sugar or starchy. Make sure you drink lots of water. After you are exercising frequently you will notice your appetite increase. Don't overdo it, eat within your diet and you will notice the weight fall off at a comfortable rate.

Best of luck in losing weight after your gastric bypass surgery!

Does P90x Work For Overweight Or Out of Shape People?

Can P90x work for someone who is very overweight or out of shape? The answer is yes, P90x will definitely work for some who is very over weight. The great thing about P90x is that all of the moves and exercises can be customized to the individual. There are beginner, intermediate, and advanced moves and techniques for all of the P90x exercise.

For example, lets take push ups. It is very likely that someone who is very overweight will not be able to do even one push up. So the can change their form to make it a little easier. Instead of getting up on their toes and feet, they would drop down to their knees. If doing a push up from their knees is still too difficult, they could stand a few feet away from a wall, facing the wall they would lean forward against the wall with their hands in push up form, and do push ups from the wall back to standing position. A person would start with the beginner P90x moves and eventually move their way up to the advanced form of the exercise.

Another common example of how an exercise move can be changed is with the pull up. Pull ups can be very challenging and it is very common for people to not even be able to do one pull up. In this case, the person would start out with resistance bands. These bands come in varying difficulty levels and a person could start low and work their way up, to eventually being able to do a few pull ups.

These are just a few examples of how the P90x workout can be changed to suit the individual. Each and everyone one of us is at a different fitness level and the creators of P90x have taken this into consideration. P90x is an intense workout that would definitely work for someone who is out of shape or over weight

3 Easy Ways to Hire a Figure Coach

Finding a good figure coach isn't easy, and sometimes it can be downright frustrating, too. If you do a search on the Internet you will see an overabundance of information on how to hire a figure coach.

Figure competition trainers are a dime a dozen and most are good, and others are simply AWESOME. I am going to share with you 3 things to look for when you go to hire a figure coach to prep you for a figure competition.

Tip #1 - Make sure he or she has real client and before and after pics

A picture is worth a thousand (and more) words. The sport of figure competition is the art of illusion. Your figure trainer should be able to diet you down in such a way that you lose nasty, ugly body fat and hold on to every ounce of beautiful lean muscle mass. The best way to see this type of transformation is via before and after pictures.

Tip #2 - Research the figure coach you plan to hire

It is easy for others to Photoshop and steal client pictures from other well-established figure trainers. Therefore, it is up to you to do some homework and research on the best figure coach for you. Research his or her name, background, about page, testimonials, before and after photos, books he or she may have written, etc. You can never have too much information on the trainer you are planning to hire.

Tip #3 - Inspect what you expect

When you go to hire a figure trainer you really should inspect what you expect. I have heard SO many horror stories of ladies investing in a figure coach, only to be tossed aside by unanswered e-mails and failure to update figure prep programs. To avoid this downfall, contact the figure trainer you plan to hire and ask about his or her order of business. See how long it takes him or her to e-mail you back, and that will give you a great deal of insight of that person's work ethics.

It doesn't have to be a painstaking process. If you really want to hire a figure coach that suits your needs, then set aside a little bit of time and research the information. Don't stop at the first trainer you find. Bookmark him or her and find at least 5 other trainers you think you might want to e-mail for more information.

How Hard is the Insanity Workout?

What does 'Extreme' mean, anyway? Is calling the Insanity Workout 'the hardest workout ever put on DVD' meant as a warning, a challenge, or it is just hype? Why is the Insanity Workout considered such a challenge, and why are so many people warned away from trying it out? Is it meant only for the elite athlete, or can the Average Joe who used to be into sports during school but has since packed on 35 lbs try it on for size?

The Insanity Workout is billed as the most extreme workout put on DVD for a simple reason. While it's only a two month workout, it's done six days/week, with each workout lasting just shy of any hour. It consists of a brutal combination of cardio, plyometrics (jumping), calisthenics (using your own body weight as resistance), sports drills and core work. That, and the intensity level at which Insanity is does is through the roof. Shaun T calls it 'Max Interval Training', where instead of working out at max intensity for a brief period of time, and then resting for a long stretch, you do the opposite. The result is a heart pounding 45 minutes of extremely intense exercises.

The workout is designed for competent athletes for a reason. It's not a question of willpower, not a question of determination, or even mental fortitude, though you'll need all of those. It's a question of how conditioned your joints and muscles are. Whether they're ready to be pounded six days/week, for two months straight. The most common complaint I hear is from people two weeks in who have started to develop knee and ankle injuries. These can be ameliorated by taking three basic precautions:

1) Get the best cross trainers you can buy,

2) Work out on a yoga mat, and

3) Take a joint support supplement composed of collagen type II and glucosamine.

Even so, your body will taking a rude pounding, and may not be up to the task.

Is it worth it? Is it worth pounding your body so hard for two months? Yes. What you end up doing is not High Intensity Interval Training, but Threshold Training, where you operate at just below your all out max so that you can last all 45 minutes. This results in a staggering number of bodily adaptions, from developing your anaerobic engine to improving your explosive power (think your ability to jump or explode into a sprint). It consumes a vast number of calories (up to 1,000 in some workouts) and so if you follow the nutrition plan correctly, can result in a staggering weight loss. Your muscles and core will become jacked, and all the calisthenics (thin a wide variety of pushups, tricep/shoulder work) will keep your upper body toned and in excellent shape.

So what's the take-away. Can you do Insanity if you're not a super-fit athlete? Yes, if you remain aware of your joints, take it slow in the beginning, and give your body time to adapt. Will it give you stunning results if you follow the nutrition plan and do your best? Absolutely. Will fit and healthy athletes get something out of this program? No question about it. I've heard of entire SWAT and police forces using this program to get in shape, high school basketball coaches using it over the summer to condition their teams, and have heard innumerable success stories from a wide variety of people that tell me one thing: Insanity is for real. If you're smart about how you approach it, if you take care of yourself, follow the nutrition plan and have a will of iron, you'll get it done, and you won't recognize yourself when you're finished.

P90X Review - Is This Workout For Me?

As some of you may know, I was a major college athlete many years ago. In my best shape, I was about 260 pounds, with a body fat percentage less than 15%. Prior to my senior season, I suffered a catastrophic injury to my right knee, which effectively ended my football career. Like many athletes before me, once I got hurt, I never adjusted my eating habits. I continued to eat as if I was working out 6-8 times per week, even though I was now working out less than half of that. Needless to say, I put on some serious weight over the past 10 years, and just recently decided it was time to get back into game shape, or better. I have some very aggressive goals to reach, and am well on my way to achieving them.

In the course of deciding what type of workout plan would best suit me, I heard an enormous amount of buzz about P90X. The infomercial spotlights many people who have achieved massive success using this program. Is this thing the real deal or what?

P90X is a home exercise system, designed by fitness expert Tony Horton, in partnership with BeachBody. This program is designed for people with a solid base of conditioning, who are looking to take their level of training to a higher plane. The program is designed around a three pronged approach of strength training, stretching, and cardiovascular work. P90X uses the principle of muscle confusion (more commonly known as cross training) to help its users achieve total body fitness. By switching the order of exercises, and bringing new exercises into the program throughout, the body is unable to adapt to the workouts, which prevents participants from "hitting the wall" in their workouts.

The system consists of twelve workouts, seven that are strength training focused, and five that are cardio centered. The workouts include push ups and pull ups, as well as plyometrics, ken po and yoga. As is implied by the name, the workout plan is meant to run for 90 days, after which time you will have graduated from the course.

One of the most appealing aspects of this workout program is the flexibility built into it. The workout can be modified into the "lean" version, which substitutes most of the strength training with cardio and stretching. The program can also be modified into an even more strenuous "doubles" version, aimed at athletes looking to get back into competitive shape by combining the classic P90X workout plan with a Cardio X session starting in phase two during each strength training day. Whether you are looking to gain weight, lose weight or maintain weight, P90X can be customized to achieve that result.

The P90X program also comes with a nutritional plan, which is divided into three sections, each tailored to the three sections of the workout plan. The first thirty days emphasizes higher protein and lower carbohydrates, with a limited calorie count. The second phase increases the calorie count, with a more balanced plan of proteins and carbohydrates. Phase three uses higher amounts of calories, with more carbohydrates than proteins. This is designed to give the body enough quick energy to keep up with the pace of the phase three workouts.

Additionally, BeachBody recommends a recovery formula after each workout, to help the body more efficiently recover and build muscle. The P90X recovery formula contains 4 parts carbohydrates to 1 part whey protein, which is easily digestible and can reach the muscles immediately after the end of the workout. The recovery drink also includes L-Glutamine, L-Arginine and Creatine supplements. From my experiences as an athlete, what you do to your body externally is only trumped in importance by what you put into it. If I were doing this workout plan, I would want every possible assistance to recovery possible.

In order to complete the workout, you will need the following equipment, if you don't already have it:

-Dumbbells-either 15, 20 and 25 pound weights, or resistance bands can be substituted.

-Pull-up bar for strength training exercises

-Yoga mat for the abdominal and yoga portions, unless you don't mind a cold floor or laying on the carpet.

Also recommended are push-up handles(which increase the range of push-ups and put less stress on the wrists), a heart rate monitor for the cardio workouts, and a sturdy chair which is incorporated into a number of exercises.

Based on my research, I think that P90X is an excellent workout plan, for the right population. I would recommend it for people who are:

- Athletes looking for a greater level of fitness.

- Currently working out regularly, and are looking for something different.

- Knowledgeable enough to modify the workout plan to their level of fitness.

- Consulting with a physician regularly, and have received an approval from that physician to move forward.

If the most strenuous workout you've done in the past 6 months is getting off the couch to go to Cinnabon, this is not the workout plan for you, period end of story. However, BeachBody does offer numerous workouts for varying degrees of fitness, so you don't have to feel left out.

But, if you think P90X is exactly what you need, here's what I would recommend. BeachBody offers a 90 day, 100% satisfaction guarantee on P90X, because they are confident that everyone can have the proven success that P90X has produced time and time again. Commit to doing the plan for the full 90 days. After completing phase one, you should have a pretty good idea of whether phases two and three are going to be worth your time or not, but complete all three phases. If you're not satisfied with the results you get, box it all up and send it back.

The most important thing is this: get up and do SOMETHING!

P90X Workout Review - Is P90X AS Good As They Say It Is?

P90X is the most popular home workout in the United States today, without question. The success stories and testimonials of people experiencing fantastic results from using it pour in, almost by the hour. But just like anything, one has to wonder, is all of the hype surrounding this workout program just hype, or is P90X the real deal? Let's explore and find out.

Does P90X Work?

With the #1 Infomercial running in the US today, just about everyone has heard about this workout.

But for those who haven't here is a quick overview. P90X was designed by Tony Horton, after people experienced great success with his Power 90 workout. His customers were looking for a workout that could take their fitness to the next level, so Tony went back into the lab, and came out with P90X. It is 12 specially formulated workouts, created to make a complete body makeover in 90 days.

"Muscle Confusion" sounds like a much more complex theory than it actually is, and it is one of the keys to success for the P90X plan. The P90X workout schedule is set up in such a way that your body never gets used to the workouts you're doing, and that's what muscle confusion is. If you've worked out for any amount of time, you've hit a point in your program where you can't seem to make any more gains, hitting the so-called "wall". P90X is the demolition crew that destroys the wall.

But even if P90X is as great as advertised, is it really possible to achieve those kinds of results in only 90 days?" It definitely is, but the next section will explain the difference maker between P90X and the rest of their "competitors."

What Makes P90X Work So Well?

If you're waiting for me to describe a secret pill, lotion, potion or herb in this section, you will be sorely disappointed. The key ingredient to the P90 workout plan is nutrition, and your willingness to change the way you get yours. Without the nutritional needs of your body being met, the results that P90X produces ARE NOT POSSIBLE. You will experience good results, but certainly not a body transformation.

P90X comes with a 3 phase nutrition guide, that provides the specific nutritional needs your body requires during each phase of the workout program. Just like a computer, your body will only respond with what it has been programmed with. Program it with a health dose of fast food, fat and empty carbohydrates, and don't be surprised if the output is not what you hoped for.

The most surprising thing about the P90X program is just how complete it is. In addition to everything provided above, any person who gets this workout will also receive access to free online support tools, including access to fitness experts, peer support and motivation. Moreover, Beachbody customers all receive access to an online fitness coach, absolutely free. That coach is someone just like you, who is going through the workout programs Beachbody offers, like P90X.

Many companies claim to stand behind their product, offering some form of money back guarantee. Beachbody went so far overboard with their guarantee on this product, however, that I had no choice but to give this product my absolute stamp of approval. For a workout program that lasts for 90 days, the guarantee is also 90 days. To offer a customer the ability to complete every day of the program before deciding whether it is worth it or not is positively unheard of, for any product, in any marketplace.

Do You Need Motivation to Exercise?

With all the hype over weight loss and perfect figure, an overweight person might get upset and demoralized by his own appearance. Finding out that exercise is the best way to cut down excess fat leaves him wondering if he'd ever be able to do with all the hard work.

Motivation is all what a person needs at such times and there can be a lot of ways to be motivated and pushed to an activity which does not just makes your body feel good but freshens up your mind and releases all the stress.

Look for ways which give a boost to your self esteem and you can be motivated. Follow through these simple guidelines and make your day an enjoyable workout A very vital step in motivation is finding a partner. Look for company who wants to get in shape like you. The person will not only help you morally but will pose as a competitor too, with both working on the same goal it'll push you to work harder.

Think that workout time as taking out time for yourself. Its time when you need to relax and help yourself out, to end up having a good shape and a healthy life.

Read magazines and blogs, and find people who found exercise fun. Read through their experiences and learn and know that you're not alone. There are people trying to have that trimmed body. Read the success stories of people who struggled all the way to get in shape. Such stories are inspirational and will assure you the happy ending of your whole struggle.

For a good start you might want to have a coach or join a class. Seeing that someone is examining you will push you to do better.

Visualize yourself as a slim and smart person who could wear all those clothes you've always dreamt of. This'll help you get motivated to exercise more.

Set goals for yourself. Just because you have spent your evening exercising doesn't mean you don't do it next evening. Think of doing even more the next time and feel pride in it.

Reward yourself after a good workout, not by ice creams or donuts but by having a day off or having a day with just stretching exercises. Treat yourself with a new outfit or a day at beach with your friends.

Working out is the best way to let go of all your stress. Your body releases endorphins while you exercise; these help boost your self esteem.

Build Muscles for That Sculpted Look

If you have started on the home fitness workout program, you know that the final goal of the program is to lose weight and look sculpted. Though you might have seen the before and after pictures, the truth is that it does happen. Though you get ripped if you follow the complete program, building muscle mass is a different story. You need to take adequate care if you are planning on building muscles.

Eat healthy

There is no substitute for healthy eating and if you are building muscles go in for a high protein and carbohydrate diet. This will help you build muscles and remain energized all through the course of the program. It is best to have about 6 meals a day with a gap of 2-4 hours in between each meal.

Water

Drinking plenty of water is not only essential for the skin, but for the whole body. Sweating takes away essential nutrients and minerals and water helps you hydrate your body.

Supplement Shakes

Drink recovery supplement shakes after each workout to replenish your body's vital elements after an intensive workout. Higher dose of nutrients are needed when you are building muscle mass, so have enough supplements.

Less cardio workouts

Though home fitness programs have a lot of cardio workouts, do less of them if you are building mass. Cardio workouts are known to slow down muscle growth so don't do too much of it. Most home fitness workouts have intensive cardio workouts as it increases stamina and core strength. But when you are looking to bulk up, do little of cardio.

You will be able to see results within 30-45 days and as you progress, you will build mass. It may seem difficult in the beginning but if you are dedicated, it gets easier as you move on.

Progressive Overload Training

Most people who have been doing strength training for a decent period of time have heard of a concept called Progressive Overload Training. What is it? It is essentially the principle that if you continue to workout in a certain way or doing the same exercises without changing weights or reps, your body will adapt to your training and stop growing.

When you see someone in the gym that has been doing the same workout for a year, using the same weight for the same reps, and they haven't gained made any gains, it's because their muscles have adapted to their training. There are a few ways that you can progressively overload your muscles so that they are forced to get bigger, stronger, and have more endurance.

The first way, and my favorite way is to simply increase the resistance for the exercise that your body has adapted to. By doing this you will increase strength and size effectively.

Another way is to increase the number of reps for the given exercise. This will help increase muscular endurance and force your muscles to more effectively fight fatigue.

Other ways that you can use progressive overload training is to increase the number of sets you do, increase your rest periods to allow your muscles more recovery, and you can also increase the intensity to help your body push harder.

Progressive Overload is a concept that is essential to your growth in fitness. Whether your goal is to gain muscle, increase strength, or lose fat, it is imperative that you confuse your body when it has adapted.

I'm assuming you have seen the commercials for P90x, where Tony Horton talks about "muscle confusion." Muscle confusion is basically the same concept. He tricks your body into growing every 30 days by making your body workout differently. Most people seem to get pretty good results from his program simply because they are changing their workouts - something most people don't do if they don't have a specific training regimen laid out for them.

I'm not saying that you need to order some expensive training program to get in good shape, but it is important that you keep your body guessing so that it doesn't adapt to your training.

The moral of the story here is that you need to continuously change your resistance, sets, reps, and volume in order to achieve continuous positive change.

Making Your Own Before and After Weight Loss Photos

One of the most difficult parts of losing weight is the feeling that you are not really making any progress. Even if the numbers on the scale are dipping, you might not see a visible change when you look into the mirror. That's why before and after weight loss photos are so useful.

How to Take Before and After Weight Loss Photos

Before you start taking before and after weight loss pictures, you should set up a regular schedule. Taking a snapshot once a month will allow you to see a regular progression in your weight loss.

For before and after photos to be effective, you have to be able to see as much of your body as possible. If you are comfortable taking a picture naked or in your underwear, that's the most effective way. Otherwise, wear a bikini or bathing suit or tight-fitting clothes like a tank top and biking shorts. If possible, keep your clothing approximately the same for each picture.

Next you want to set up your shot. You want to have as much of your body as possible in the photos, but you want to be close enough to clearly see the changes your weight loss program makes. You might want to take the pictures from the knees up to help you get a closer shot.

If you do not have a friend or family member that you feel comfortable asking to take the pictures for you, use the automatic setting on your camera. If possible, take notes or make a small mark where you stood and where the camera was positioned. This will help you to keep your before and after pictures uniform.

You'll want to take pictures in two different poses - one from the front, and one in profile. This will make changes in your body shape more apparent.

You might be surprised at how much you've changed once you compare pictures of yourself before and after weight loss. When your body shape changes gradually, you become accustomed to how you look in the mirror. But when you view a snapshot from a month before, you can see that losing those pounds really did make a big difference.

Double My Money Fast - Secrets From the Pros

Over the years I've run into many very successful investors. I always try to pick their brains to find out what has worked for them. One of the questions I always ask them is how I can double my money fast. I've gotten some interesting advice over the years.

One investor focuses on buying products for much less than they cost and selling them quickly. He either buys things at wholesale prices directly from manufacturers or he'll buy boxes of mixed items at garage and estate sales. He's got an eye for what will sell and has had much success doing this. The key to this idea is to be sure you're focusing on things that will sell quickly. You'll want to try to acquire less expensive items that are in high demand.

Another investor has focused on providing services to people. He's had many different services he's offered over the years, from dog walking to house sitting. Before starting any venture he looks at how much he will have to spend to get started and makes sure that he can charge enough to double his initial investment within a week. When he makes this his goal, he can find ways to achieve it. The important thing is to have a solid plan before he gets started and make sure that he's following it closely.

There are many ways successful investors have found ways to double their money fast. The common theme that runs among all of their ideas is having a plan and sticking to it.

Dieting's Dirty Little Secret - No Weight Loss Maintenance Plan

Congratulations! You have finally met your goal weight. Months of discipline and hard work have finally led you to a successful result that most people never achieve. You're done with this lousy diet. Let's go celebrate!

Whatcha feel like doing? A big dinner? That huge hot fudge sundae you've been craving? Go to a movie and actually have some popcorn?

Oh, those won't work, will they? See, if you celebrate your goal weight tonight with the type of eating that made you overweight in the first place, you probably won't be at your goal weight by tomorrow morning. So, the eating celebration is out, or you will spoil the reason you are celebrating.

That's ok, your favorite foods don't have to be part of every celebration. We could do a celebratory hike on some scenic trail, go to the movies and bring along some celery to munch, or go lay on the beach, read books and show off your great new body. Those could be fun....sort of.

Wait. Something is horribly wrong here. You've "made weight". Time for the MAINTENANCE PLAN your diet plan has promised you, which will allow you to eat all those foods you have been depriving yourself. Time to stop dieting and get back to a more normal life.

If you've achieved weight loss by conventional dieting's "one trick pony" of eating less and exercising more, how will you stay at the lowest weight you've achieved by relaxing that approach, eating more and exercising less? And when you put a few pounds back on and are no longer at your goal weight, how will a maintenance plan get you back down to your goal weight?

It won't. You will be back on your diet to lose that newly gained weight. Only this time you will have a new hurdle to clear, the incredible frustration of having reached your goal weight, only to watch it slipping away every time you stray from your diet.

You finally come to the startling realization -

Dieting's Dirty Little Secret

Yes Virginia, there is no weight loss maintenance plan.

If you want to maintain your goal weight, you are on the same diet that got you there, FOREVER.

We are not happy to be the one to tell you, and we hope you don't blame us for this terrible news. But, you need to know and, for those few who make it to their goal weight, you were going to find out anyway. So, you might as well accept it and find ways to move on with your new permanent diet lifestyle.

We know what you're thinking: THIS CAN'T BE! There is a weight loss maintenance plan, I won't need to lose any more weight so why would I need to keep dieting?

That's the DENIAL phase. Only 4 more phases in the grieving process left.

"The whole diet industry is a scam! I will never diet again!"

Welcome to the ANGER phase.

"Well, it's stupid to gain all that weight back just because I was duped. I'll eat a little more, and just gain a little weight. At least I will still be close to my goal weight"

BARGAINING phase. Make the best deal you can, you'll be living it for a long, long time.

"This sucks. I can't survive on 1200 calories a day forever. I thought the starving and struggling was only going to last until I reached my goal weight. It's futile, I give up."

DESPRESSION phase. Struggling, Suffering, Sacrifice and Starving is depressing, no doubt.

"I guess I just have to keep dieting. There's no way I want to go back to being fat again, and this diet worked, and I just have to live with the fact that if I want this body, I must follow this diet forever".

There. You reached the ACCEPTANCE phase. Staring reality directly in the face. You are on your diet forever. It could be worse right? You could be 30 pounds overweight again, and at least you look great in all your new clothes.

Please don't hate us, but we have to be the bearer of more bad news for dieters. Just because you can accept that you need to diet forever, doesn't mean you can do it. 98% of those who reach their goal weight will find this out, the hard way.

What can you do to avoid dieting's "dirty little secret"? Choose your diet plan wisely. Find a plan that is based on improving your metabolism so you don't have to use deprivation and starvation to lose weight. Be sure to avoid plans that suggest you can lose weight primarily through exercise because those almost never work and even in the rare occasion they do, the time and effort involved is almost never sustainable (in fact you can expect to have to exercise more often for longer sessions on most plans for maintenance--not fun!)

Be sure the weight loss plan you choose has a realistic game plan for maintenance that you are confident you can stay with and that makes sense for your quality of life. Finally and perhaps most importantly, we think you'll agree it should include all the foods you love on a regular basis because that's a maintenance plan you can stay with!

How Beachbody Coaching Works in Simple Terms

In the next couple minutes you will discover in simple terms exactly how Beachbody Coaching works. It's as easy as this; Beachbody Coaches are simply customers who have used and continue to use Beachbody fitness products whether they are nutritional products or workout programs like P90X, Shaun T insanity or for that matter, Shakeology. These customers join with a title and rank of "Coach". Basically through using the programs and achieving results, though not required, and helping others do the same these coaches have the potential to earn an income.

There are multiple ranks to climb which in turn add more to the commission structure in ways to earn. As a Coach builds their team by personally sponsoring new coaches they will have the ability to earn team bonuses. So a Coach has more and more potential to earn the more effective their team becomes. With that in mind it's easy to see how team work comes into play. To create a long term business it is highly suggested the team work together, attend local live events, and conduct house parties on a regular basis. This will ensure momentum and positive energy in the team and this will potentially lead to greater successes.

To sum it up: an Independent Beachbody Coach is simply a customer who wishes to team up and share their story with all they can reach. The more exposure a coach can generate, online or off, the greater their chance for success. A Coach earns through retail sales like P90X, Shaun T Insanity, and Shakeology; plus when the coach actively grows their team and personally sponsors new coaches in their organization they will have the ability to earn team and company bonuses.

Top 5 Health-Fitness New Year Resolutions

The famous and popular New Year's resolution time of the year has arrived. Do you panic because you haven't made a resolution? Do you brush it off because you don't believe in resolutions? Or do you actually set a New Year's resolution and take action? These are all thoughts that ponder our minds when this time of year comes around, whether you admit it or not. With Christmas, New Years, family problems, work, etc. This is another thing we have to add to the list, as if this time of year isn't busy enough. But at the end of the day, never ever negate the importance of taking care of yourself (your body and health), without this you will have no thriving energy, no passion, and you will be going through the motions everyday dragging ass! Put your body and health on a pedestal and take care of yourself! Here are 5 health-fitness New Year resolutions that seem to always be popular.

1. Joining a Gym

Joining a gym always seems to be the front runner when it comes to health-fitness resolutions. This is probably because people feel obligated into signing up at a gym and because it's the easiest route to take. You walk into a commercial gym, take a tour, sign up, get a personal trainer, become fully engaged for a month, and then all the sudden you find yourself locked into a year-long contract paying monthly fees when you don't even go anymore. How many times have you seen this or heard this story? Bottom line: If signing up at a commercial gym is going to fire you up every day to bust your ass and make a change in your health, then by all means sign on that dotted line. If a commercial gym isn't for you, don't feel guilty or obligated to sign up, don't waste your time or money. Go find a place that is right for you!

2. Joining a Team

Next on the list has to be joining some sort of team, participating in a recreational league (indoor soccer, basketball), or starting a new class (Zumba, boot camp). Joining a team is something very simplistic and effective. Being on a team makes you feel like a part of something and what better than to be on a team with like-minded people, right? However, what if you aren't a team player or a team oriented type of person? Maybe you're self-motivated and work better individually. Bottom line: Don't just join a team for the hell of it! Know what your strengths and weaknesses are. If you like being around people and receiving that gratification from being on a team then go for it. If you are self-motivated and individualistic, then find something that's going to accommodate that.

3. Purchasing a Home Video Workout Routine

Next we have purchasing home video workout routines and a show of hands please if you have bought these before? All kidding aside, purchasing a home video workout routine is a very popular health-fitness New Year's resolution. For example, P90X is very popular and could be very effective if you are the type of person that is intimidated by the big gyms, short on time to make it to a gym, stay at home mom, or if it's going to flat out get you fired up to train hard in your home! If you're doing this because everyone else is doing it or because the sales person on TV is telling you to do it then you better think again. Bottom line: If a home video workout routine is going to seriously motivate you to make a change in your health then pop that baby in the DVD player and go to town on it! If you're purchasing it because others are, then you seriously need to get out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself with something else.

4. Hiring a Coach

Almost nearing the bottom we have hiring a coach. Hiring a coach helps figure out EXACTLY what you want and provides ACTION steps to get you closer to that. A coach can be online or in person just like a personal trainer. A coach will make the blue print to whatever your goals are and it will be your job to take action and do the work. If you hire a coach, do it because you want to make a change, want a challenge, make sure you're self-motivated, and make sure you will be accountable for your actions. Also, by hiring a coach, you have that responsibility in your hands to prove to your coach you can accomplish what he maps out for you. There is no better feeling than impressing your coach by earning your results through hard work and discipline. Bottom line: A coach isn't for everybody. If you need that one-to-one personal trainer to get you started on the right track then do that! For more information on seeing if a coach is right for you, click here.

5. Participating in Virtual Challenges

We leave participating in virtual challenges last because it has so much skepticism. As virtual challenges are fairly new, a lot of people are hesitant to give them a try. A virtual challenge can be anything from a 6-10 week fat loss challenge, 8 week muscle building challenge, etc. Everything is done through online. The beautiful thing about virtual challenges is you can do what you want at your convenience: You can work out whenever you want, as long as you follow the given workout routine, you can perform the workout routine usually at home, at a park, or at a gym, you can follow the customized diets you are given, you can get that gratification of being a part of a team, you have constant motivation from fellow participants and coaches, and you have that extra motivation because you want to win that prize at the end. There are a lot of benefits to virtual challenges because of its convenience and flexibility. Bottom line: If you are competitive, need motivation, and want to try something outside of the box then try a virtual challenge, you have nothing to lose. If you need a blue print to success, are self-motivated, and want to take on that next challenge then hire a coach.

Hopefully these top 5 New Year's health-fitness resolutions gave you an idea of what is out there and what fits well with you. Never ever compare yourself to others. Focus on your own growth and how important you are to the world. Find a resolution that is going to bring YOU gratification and change! Time is the most precious commodity out there. It's the one thing you can't buy or ever buy back. So, choose something that is going to fit well with you. Give it your absolute all to whatever resolution it is your doing, no matter how big or small it is. Bottom line: Be willing to change NOW, TODAY! If you have to have to wait to start Monday or on New Year's, or some arbitrary date, you will never change! Keep your eye on the prize and take action! PEACE!

5 Easy Steps to Complete Any Fitness Program

Are you considering starting a new fitness program and hopefully look somewhat decent by the holidays? Are you noticing that the cute outfits that you bought over the summer are not so cute on you anymore - darn those love handles! Did your doctor suggest that you do some serious thinking about how you're taking care of your body? Whatever the reason for you to loss weight, you have decided to find a solution to improving your physique.

Take a deep breathe and exhale. You found a solution in the 5-Easy Steps To Complete Any Fitness Program. If you seriously follow these 5 steps listed below you will meet your weight loss objectives:

Step 1: Begin With The End In Mind

Begin with the end in mind is a phrase coined in the works of Steven Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The concept simple states when we begin with the end in mind, we have a personal direction to guide our daily activities, without which we will accomplish little toward our own goals.

All things are created twice. We create them first in our minds, and then we work to bring them into physical existence. By taking control of our own first creation, we can write or re-write our own scripts, thus taking some control and responsibility for the outcome.

Before you start your fitness program clearly define your end weight and other areas of your body that you want to improve on like a slimmer hip.To help in this step use the S.M.A.R.T Goals model technique. The acronym means: goals should be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. In other words, in the goal setting process make sure you use the SMART system.

Step 2: Use The Visualization Technique Daily

The brain is a powerful and fascinating and often thinks in pictures. One of the main reasons goal setting doesn't work for people is because they don't understand or utilize the power of this one critical factor - visualization! Visualizing is your key to success for two reasons:

1. Your mind thinks in pictures and images;

2. Your subconscious mind drives your behavior.

Create a vision board or cut out a picture from a magazine or other source of a women who have the shape you aspire to achieve. Place the image in a place where you will see everyday and more than once per day (near the bathroom mirror, on the refrigerator, on your car dashboard, etc). This image will condition your subconscious mind to work on your behalf to help change your behavior into doing things in reaching this image.

Step 3: Identify An External Motivation Factor

Starting a new fitness program isn't difficult. How many have you started than end because...? Sticking with a fitness program to reap the full benefits can be extremely difficult for many. In spite of what the television celebrity doctors tell you, begin the next fitness program for someone other than you. This may sound shocking at first, put understand the reason for this important step. Goal setting models have determined If you have a motivation factor external to yourself, the goal setter is much more likely to meet their goals. Fundraisers are a great example of this principle. Being healthier for you children will keep you moving forward through the fitness program than getting into those summer jeans!

Step 4: Find An Accountability Buddy

Do you really need someone to exercise with me? No. An accountability buddy or partner is someone who will hold you accountable and at times motivate you in reaching your goals. Pick someone whom you respect and has a positive attitude. Share with this person your weight loss goals, your motivation, and the duration of support. Determine the method in which you will update your support person and the time interval (e.g. every Friday by email or every Sunday via phone). The corporate world call this a status report and it's very effective. Do not skip this step, it will be a blessing to you.

Step 5: Take Immediate Action

Now that you have determined to start a fitness program, have a clear image of your new gorgeous body, identified and gain support from an accountability partner, it's time to start the fitness program.

Take pictures of yourself in clothing that allows you to see your current figure. Reminder those cute outfits that you bought over the summer? Put on one (regardless how tight - sweet goddess you still look good!) and have someone take a few clear pictures of you (front waist up, front head to toe, side full) in good lighting, natural sun light is the best.

After taking some current pictures, find a tape measure and get your measurements. Record the measurements in a log and keep in a safe place (update this log regularly). You should measure your waist, thighs, and hips at a minimum (record other areas that are a part of your goals). Purchase a proven fitness program and workout at home or join a fitness program at your local athletic club.

Does Power 90 Work? An Honest Review

In 2001 personal trainer Tony Horton released 'Power 90' through Beachbody, a fitness company dedicated to delivering at-home workout routines. Power 90 was so successful that in 2004 Tony Horton released P90X, a program that has gone on to sell 2 million units, become a household name and favorite celebrity workout. However, even as P90X claimed the spotlight, Power 90 continued to sell, and today remains one of the most popular at-home fitness programs on the market. In this article we ask: has Power 90 remained a relevant workout? Can it deliver outstanding results? Has it not been superseded by P90X?

First a brief overview of the Power 90 workout itself: meant to take 90 days, the workout is designed to pass you through 4 stages of gradually increasing intensity as you cycle through six distinct workouts contained on 2 DVD's. These workouts consist of two 'Sculpt Circuit' workouts, two 'Sweat Cardio' workouts and two 'Ab Ripper' routines. The onus is on the user to decide when they are ready to transition from one difficulty level to the next; Power 90 clearly states that you need to listen to your own body and progress at your own rate.

The actual workouts are quite brief. The longest runs at Sculpt and Sweat workouts range from 29 to 42 minutes, while the ab routines are very brief, ranging from 4 to 6 minutes. Anybody familiar with the P90X workout will recognize the components that go into each of these routines. Sweat Cardio begins with yoga as a warm up, and then continues into a variety of cardio exercises including martial art strikes that culminate in a stretch/yoga cool down. The Sculpt Circuit also begins with some stretching and light yoga, and then proceeds through a weight resistance routine that is demonstrated with both free weights and resistance bands. As such, they progress through a mix of different styles and workouts in their 40 minute durations.

What is immediately apparent upon watching these workouts is that they do not have the intensity or production values of P90X. The setting is a bland, featureless studio space and you will definitely want your own music playing to keep you pumped. The workouts themselves are simply not as extreme as those in P90X, given that not only is their duration brief but the actual exercises will fit within the upper reaches of most people's comfort levels.

Is this a bad thing? No. Of course having a beautiful stage with all the props and effects such as P90X boasts of is more impressive, but that has nothing to do with the quality of the workout. The only effect such a cheesy setup has is to make it more difficult to take the workouts as seriously. However, anybody who is serious about getting physical results should be able to look past this early iteration of a Beachbody product made when the company was still young, and focus on the exercises themselves.

It is important to note that P90X and Power 90 are meant for different audiences. P90X is literally an extreme program, and should only be attempted by those in already good physical condition. This is not meant to be a provocative statement designed to sting your pride and goad you into 'manning' up, but rather the plain truth. P90X is very, very hard, and just as somebody setting out on learning how to run should not adopt an Olympic marathon routine, novices and those who have not exercised in some time should not attempt P90X.

Instead, Power 90 is the perfect program for them. This is where Power 90's moderate intensity level is of value. While anybody can push their workouts while undertaking this routine to their personal maximum and thus achieve greater results, Power 90 is a more flexible routine that lends itself to a greater variety of athletes and people.

In conclusion: the principles behind Power 90 are solid. If you follow the workouts and the nutrition guide for three months, you should achieve impressive results. The degree of results will depend on your dedication and effort; Power 90 will tell you how to achieve them, but it will fall on you to do the exercises and eat correctly. Has it been superseded by P90X? No. It is the logical precursor to P90X, and should be seen as a challenging routine for all people interested in going from a beginning or mid-level of fitness to a more advanced position. What is required on your part is that you set aside ego and pride and ask yourself where you are at, and how best to achieve the results you desire. Some athletes can jump right into P90X, while the rest of us have to earn that level of requisite fitness. Which is exactly where Power 90 fits into the picture.

Bodylastics DVD - Circuit Training and Chiseled DVD Review

Are you looking to find out what the Bodylastics DVD is all about?

When you purchase or buy Bodylastics you can also upgrade your order so that it includes the Bodylastics circuit training DVD. With some sets this is already included at no extra charge. After having ordered this home gym and watched the circuit training DVD I found it to be more applicable to women than to men.

Now don't get me wrong a good circuit training workout is good for everybody. It gives you a combination of strength training along with a cardiovascular workout. However, I can't see doing this type of work out more than perhaps once a week. The DVD itself has good visual qualities. It's not a cheaply made video production.

However, Blake Kassel the owner of Bodylastics has recently introduced some new Bodylastics DVDs that focus specifically on a muscle building or bodybuilding workout.

The two that are currently available are:

Chiseled Series 3 - I must say this is an incredible muscle building workout. This DVD set comes with a total of six videos and you get enough workouts for an entire month. No workout is ever the same. In fact for the low price of only $24.95 I believe you can throw away the P90 X workout DVDs. This workout is incredible and really targets and uses the principle of muscle confusion. No workout is the same!

Chiseled Series Super Pack - this set includes 18 different DVDs and a total of 54 different workouts. You could actually train for three entire months (90 days) and never perform the same work out again. By the way, this is not true about the P90X workout. The chiseled series super pack sells for the incredibly low price of only $39.95.

However, there is one catch to all this you must already own a set of resistance bands. But the same is true if you were to go out and buy Tony Horton's P90X workout program. This workout does not focus on too many body weight exercises unless you were to include push-ups using the resistance bands. Using the ankle straps, the door attachment, and the Bodylastics resistance bands you can get a complete total body workout without any other equipment. And for a lot less than what you would spend for the P90 X DVDs.

So before you go out and spend $150 on the P90X system you may want to check out what Bodylastic and other fitness equipment companies can offer you. Remember after you buy the P90X DVDs you still need to buy the workout equipment. Here's your chance to get ripped for what many people consider to be a reasonably low price.

1. How did you get involved in P90X and wind up being in a video working out with Tony Horton?

Everything started for me back in 2002. Being miserably out of shape, I bought the Power 90 program off of the informercial. From there, Slim in 6 was my next program. I ended up being selected as one of the success story winners from Slim in 6, and that won me a trip to Hollywood.

My last night there, I met Tony during a dinner party. He had just finished running his first test group through P90X, and he told me all about the program. Tony's and my personalities just clicked, and we became fast friends. Not long after, P90X came out and I was among the first 100 beach body customers to go through P90X (which gave me some incredible results). From there, I attended a few of Tony's fitness camps, and our friendship continued to grow. Then, in 2007, he called and told me that Beachbody wanted to cast me in the P90X+ series. The rest was history.

2. P90X is really amassing a cult following - why do you think that is?

Quite simply, because it works. With all the garbage out there being sold on infomercials, it's refreshing to have products that actually deliver what they promise. Every program that Beachbody releases is a winner - and they all give people the results that they are looking for. What sets P90X aside from most other programs is the intensity. It's more challenging than anything else out there - so the results are much more dramatic than anything on the market. You take an average person, provide them with a detailed diet guide and incredible workouts, and the end result is super-fit ripped people!! Who wouldn't want to do P90X?

3. Is it true that the P90X series that people are buying is now 6 years old and is still selling like gang busters? What are your thoughts on that?

P90X rolled out to the public in 2004. Initially, it didn't do very well in the test market (except for those of us who were dedicated Beachbody customers, and we knew it was a hit). As more and more people started doing the program and getting exceptional results - more and more people started buying it. Here we are in 2009, and P90X is the number 1 infomercial in the country. There are Pro Athletes and celebrities clamouring to get their hands on it, and now they are enjoying the results of Tony's in-home boot camp. I see it continuing to grow in popularity and it makes me anxious to see some other programs that Tony will follow up with (for it). With the growing number of people who are now hooked on high-intensity workouts, I can see more programs coming to "raise the level".

4. What was it like shooting the plus series and what is the best way to incorporate that series into the P90X routine?

It was an incredible experience shooting the X+ series with Tony Horton and Traci Morrow. Once I turned my fitness around and got really fit, it was a goal of mine to be able to one day be in a video workout with Tony. To be part of something that has such a positive impact in so many lives was an absolute honor. The P90X+ series comes with a detailed program guide, so all anyone would have to do is follow the instructions. Just like the original P90X series - P90X+ delivers the "autopilot" guide to success.

5. P90X is obviously a very aggresive program - would you say that it's primarily for people that are in good shape already and want to get into great shape?

P90X is not really intended for beginners, but Tony and "the kids" did such a great job of providing modifications, someone that is in less than peak shape CAN get through it. By the end of their 90 days, they'll look and feel like a whole new person and that's a beautiful thing.

6. What type of workout do you do when traveling (what sort of equip do you bring with you)?

When I'm traveling, I do P90X workouts. I always bring resistance bands with me, and I've worked out in person enough with Tony that I can come up with a strength, cardio, or flexibility workout on the fly - with no equipment at all. I'm all about thinking outside of the box, and I always reach for the next higher level (of intensity). Some of the best workouts I've had were at times when I was on the road (and with little or no equipment).

7. Your body is shredded. Would you mind giving us a sample of your daily diet from start to finish for one day?

Let me start by saying that I no longer count calories, and I don't measure the amount of food I eat, so these are going to be ballpark estimates on quantities. Now, this is just a staple of one day, but I eat very close to the same things on a daily basis. Breakfast, for example, is always the same for me, and ALL of the ingredients are mixed together. When it comes to fluid intake, I drink either water (1 liter per 50 lbs of bodyweight), green tea, and occasionally (but rarely) 1 cup of coffee.

Breakfast consists of Oatmeal (approx. 1.5 cups), Whey Protein Powder (varied brands), 2 scoops, 48 grams of protein, Creatine Ethyl Ester powder (4 grams), Flax seed (2 tablespoons)

AM Snacks are Fruit (apple or banana - any fruit is fine), Cliff Energy Bar or Cascadian Farms organic granola bar

Lunch would 1 lbs of vegetables (varies from day to day), 2 Morning Star Vegetarian burgers

PM Snacks are Protein Shake (mixed with water/ice), 2 scoops, 48 grams of protein or Greens Plus Protein Bar, Cascadian Farms Organic Granola Bar

Dinner consists of a bag (1 lbs) of Spinach, 1 can of Albacore tuna or salmon, 1 cup of diced tomatos, 1 cup of Black Bean Pico De Gallo, Salsa or Balsamic Vinegar

PM Snack is Shakeology - 2 scoops of Whey Protein Powder (48 grams of protein)I would like to point out that quantities above may vary slightly from day to day based on how I'm feeling. In time, you will learn to read your body and know if you need to increase or decrease your intake slightly. On days that I train in double sessions (for example), my food intake is almost always higher - simply because of the additional caloric burn.

On occasion, if I'm really hungry within that 3 hour window of bed time, I'll have one additional Protein Shake (always mixed with just water and ice). Because I eat a Pescatarian diet (fish and veggies), and I do not consume dairy, I supplement quite a bit as well. Without getting too specific, here is a summary of my supplements: P90X Multivitamins, Flax Oil Capsules, Thermogenic Fat Burners, Calcium with Vitamin DCLA, Ginko Biloba, St. John's Wort, Alfalfa (for joints - very cheap alternative to Glucosamine/Chondroitin)

8. What is your biggest challenge in maintaining your body?

At this point in the game, it's pretty easy for me to maintain my body. I always try to improve on my strength, flexibility, and endurance - but as far as appearance, I'm right where I want to be. I don't have too many urges for bad foods anymore, so I'm pretty much on autopilot. I'm walking around at about 5% bodyfat year round - and that's where I feel the best.

9. Do you have a cheat day? If so, would you mind describing it for us.

I may have a cheat meal every now and again, but it's been about 8 months since my last one - pizza remains my favorite splurge food, but when I have it, it's always whole wheat thin crust, loaded with veggies, and no cheese. Does that really count as a splurge meal?

10. What do you wish that people really got regarding the P90X program (or perhaps understood better)?

The fact that it is a lifestyle change. A lot of people do their first round of P90X and tell me that they had pretty good results, but they didn't really follow the diet guide. To really reap the full benefits of P90X, you HAVE to follow the diet guide and workout with as much intensity as you can. Its not just about looking good, its about feeling good as well. When you workout and eat clean, every aspect of your life will improve.

Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to share my perspective with you. Fitness has opened more opportunities in my life than you would believe. My entire life perspective changed once I found health and fitness - all the way down to my career, which is now full-time fitness coaching for Team Beachbody.

11) Mark what's the best way for people to stay in touch with you?
